Modeling of Spatial Variability of Soil Property and Reliability Based Design of Piles
نویسندگان
چکیده
It is the essence of geotechnical design to obtain soil parameters for design that are different from a site to another. Therefore, soil investigations play very important role in geotechnical design. The modeling of the ground based on investigation results is called site characterization, and there are some new developments in this area based on statistical theories. In the new approach, the results are directly related to reliability based design of geotechnical structures, where the resulting uncertainties (e.g. ultimate bearing capacity of a pile, settlement of embankment etc.) related to soil variability and statistical estimations are quantified. This study covers the following contents: (1) Explain some basic statistical concepts and tools that are necessary to understand the statistical site characterization of ground for geotechnical design. (2) Introduce some statistical site characterization examples and describe the procedures to carry out the analysis. The examples include several sites where CPT tests were carried out extensively. (3) Based on the statistical site characterization, vertical bearing capacity of piles is evaluated to see the influence of soil variability and statistical estimation errors. (4) Summary, conclusions and possible future works will be suggested.

Assessment of soil property spatial variation based on the geostatistical simulation
The main objective in the present study was to assess the spatial variation of chemical and physical soil properties and then use this information to select an appropriate area to install a pasture rehabilitation experiment in the Zereshkin region, Iran. A regular 250 m grid was used for collecting a total of 150 soil samples (from 985 georeferenced soil pits) at 0 to 30, and 30 to 60 cm layers...
متن کاملBehavior of Piled Raft Foundation on Heterogeneous Clay Deposits Using Random Field Theory
In the case of problematic soils and tall buildings where the design requirements cannot be satisfied merely by a raft foundation, it is of common practice to improve the raft performance by adding a number of piles so that the ultimate load capacity and settlement behavior can be enhanced. In this study, the effect of spatial variability of soil parameters on the bearing capacity of piled raft...

ABSTRACT- The information on the spatial properties of soil is vital to improve soil management and to increase the crop productivity. Geostatistical analysis technique is one of the most important methods for determining the spatial properties of soil. The aim of this study was to investigate spatial variability of soil chemical and physical attributes for field management in eastern Shiraz, I...
متن کاملSpatial variability analysis of subsurface soil in Mashhad city, NE Iran
Reliable characterization of subsurface soil in urban areas is a major concern in geotechnical and geological engineering projects. In this regard, this research deals with development of a 3D geological engineering model on Mashhad City soil using Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) approach. The intense variability of soil in the study area has sometimes caused serious problems in civil engi...

This study addresses the methodology of studying spatial variability of soil salinity. The information used is based on a semi-detailed soil survey, followed by a free survey, conducted in Ramhormoz, Khuzestan. The study of soil salinity variations was carried out using about 600 sampling points with an average distance of 500 m, at three depths of 0-50, 50-100, and 100-150 cm. To determine the...
